The Clinical and Translational Research Center has been established in August 2014 to introduce the results of innovative basic research into clinical practice at Keio University, School of Medicine. In addition, as Keio University Hospital was certified as "Clinical Research Core Hospital" in Mar. 2016, we have expanded our scope to introduce collaboration with other department, support for other medical institutions, and implementation of high-quality joint research, contributing to the consolidation and efficiency of clinical research in Japan. Several cutting-edge medical treatments have already been put to practical use by investigator-initiated clinical trials to expand the indication of Tocilizumab for adult-onset Still's disease, "Advanced medical care B" for combination therapy for oral imatinib and intravenous pembrolizumab for advanced-stage malignant melanoma. In October 2021, I assumed the position as the successor to Professor Hideyuki Saya, the first director of the center. Representing a multidisciplinary and multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, pharmacists, nurses, clinical laboratory specialists, biostatisticians, data managers, clinical research coordinators, project managers, and clinical trial/clinical research administrators, I will do my best to promote and support clinical research activities smoothly and safely.
