Medicine has advanced dramatically in the 21st century, driven by steadfast basic research, the essential link of translational research bridging science and clinical practice, and clinical research that brings discoveries directly to patients.

In August 2014, Keio University Hospital launched the Clinical and Translational Research Center to accelerate the practical application of cutting-edge basic research conducted at the Keio University School of Medicine. In March 2016, the hospital was designated as a Clinical Research Core Hospital, broadening the Center's mission to include interfaculty collaboration, support for external research institutions, multicenter studies, and global engagement. Today, we are operating at full capacity as a core driver of Japan's increasingly integrated and streamlined clinical research ecosystem.

Conducting clinical and translational research demands strict compliance with legal and ethical guidelines, as well as precision and efficiency. This requires seamless integration and collaboration across diverse specialties and professions--physicians, pharmacists, nurses, clinical laboratory specialists, biostatisticians, data managers, clinical research associates, clinical research coordinators, project managers, and more. We will continue to drive the advancement of healthcare in Japan by promoting and supporting clinical and translational research. We sincerely appreciate your continued guidance and support.

Professor Yuko Kaneko
